Investigation Date: 2nd June 2007
Investigators present: Drew Bartley, Fiona Vipond, Lee Stephenson and Ralph Keeton
Guests: Paul, Jimmy, Liz, Keith, Steve and Yvonne
The Sunderland Aircraft Museum is situated just off the A19 in Sunderland. The areas we were given to investigate were three hangers, a display room and a tool shed/tea room. After arrival at 10:00 the team and guests (minus Ralph) were shown around the museum by Keith and were informed of events that had occurred in each part of the museum.
After this Ralph joined us. He had been sat in his car waiting so as not to hear any information that may discredit his psychic thoughts, and when he returned to us he commented he had seen a man walk from hanger 3 across to hanger 1 and disappear. The whole team had stayed together during the tour around so there was no way this figure could have been one of us.
After a short break, the team was split into 3 groups. The groups rotated around the four areas for the first part of the night and the group reconvened for a séance at the end of the night.
Hanger 1:
Vigil start time: 11:30pm
Investigators: Drew, Paul and Jimmy
It seemed to be quiet in the hanger until 11:55pm when the sound of a pebble or stone being thrown in a corner of the hanger was heard by the three investigators. The same sound was heard again at 12:10am, this time the sound came from an aircraft at the opposite end of the hanger. Nothing else was noted during the vigil and the group met up at 12:15am.
Vigil start time: 12:50am
Investigators: Fiona and Yvonne
On a baseline check before the vigil began the temperature was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius and there were no EMF readings detected. Once again, as with the previous vigil, stones were heard being thrown. At one point, Yvonne felt as though she was touched on the neck. Fiona was filming with her night vision camcorder throughout the vigil and filmed some light anomalies right in front of her.
Vigil start time: 02:00am
Investigators: Lee and Liz
Once again, a check was performed prior to the commencement of the vigil and the temperature was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius and no EMF recordings were detected. Lee called out to the atmosphere to ask for spirits to communicate in some way but to no avail. The vigil was very quiet and nothing occurred.
Hanger 2
Vigil start time: 11:30
Investigators: Fiona, Ralph, Keith and Yvonne
The pre-vigil temperature was 11 degrees Celsius and no EMF’s were picked up. The vigil began with asking any spirits who could hear them to communicate in some way. The sound of a stone being thrown was heard when asked if anyone was there. Could this have been coincidence or a spirit trying to communicate? Ralph picked up on a baby which had passed which turned out to be Keith’s twin brother who passed over as a newborn. Also, Ralph senses the presence of two soldiers and a name of “Mark”. This name on it’s own cannot be authenticated without a surname.
Vigil start time: 12:50am
Investigators: Lee, Liz and Steve
The temperature at the beginning of the vigil was 9 degrees Celsius and no EMF’s were recorded. There is normally a lot of activity here though this vigil proved to be extremely quiet with nothing unusual happening at all.
Hanger 3
Vigil start time: 02:00am
Investigators: Drew, Paul and Jimmy
Only one vigil was performed in this area before the group reconvened at the end of the night. At 02:15am, a loud bang was heard in the hanger. Drew asked who or whatever had made the noise to do it again. Amazingly, the noise was repeated, only this time a lot louder. At 02:20am, another loud noise was heard coming from a helicopter on a far wall of the hanger followed by a loud scraping noise. What could have made these noises is a mystery.
Tool shed/tea room
Vigil start time: 11:30pm
Investigators: Lee, Liz and Steve
This was the only vigil performed in this area. Two minutes into this vigil Lee’s walkie-talkie repeatedly sounded with a ring. Nobody was trying to contact Lee at this time and it was found that Drew and Fiona’s walkie-talkies were doing the same thing at the same time. Steve commented that it is a common phenomena for walkie-talkies to act erratically and once one starts, other walkie-talkies seem to follow. This was the only notable thing that happened during this vigil.
Reception/display room
Vigil start time: 12:50am
Investigators: Drew, Paul, Jimmy, Ralph and Keith
From the ceiling of the display room there are two model planes hanging. Every now and then these planes would start to rotate at varying speeds. Sometimes very slowly, then faster etc. At 01:00am Drew saw a ‘shadow’ move across the window in the display room.
Group séance in Hanger 3
At 03:25am, the team reconvened and performed a group séance to see if any spirits could make contact with us in a more definitive way. Prior to the séance commencing, Fiona saw a figure standing a short distance away from her. There was no one standing near her at the time so was this a spirit or a trick of the mind? During the séance there were a couple of taps coming from elsewhere in the hanger. Other than this, no other activity was experienced. The group then made their way to hanger 1 and tried an experiment with one of the aircraft. It is said that if a group of people placed their hands on the aircraft, it will rock from side to side. We stood around the aircraft and placed our hands onto the body of the plane and, low and behold, it began to rock gently. It was notable by feeling and by sight that the plane was moving. This was a very interesting and unexplainable phenomena.
