Investigation Date: 25th February 2006
Investigators present: Drew Bartley, Darren Ritson, Fiona Vipond, Lee Stephenson
Guests: Mark, Rob, Chris and Scott.
On the same night as the Coroner's court investigation, we were also to Investigate The Sea Nightclub (Neptune House) on Newcastle Quayside. At 3.30am we ventured across after a very interesting time at the coroners court to see what this former Quayside fish market would throw at us. (We had to wait until the club emptied out before we could investigate it). Neptune house was built in 1880 and this former fish market was turned into a nightclub in the year 2000. In comparison to some of the other old buildings on the quayside, Neptune House is relatively new but nevertheless a fabulous venue to investigate and still 126 years old.
Staff have reported lots of strange goings on while in there alone and with other people. Ghostly footfalls have been heard on numerous occasions on the high wooden bridges that take you across the top of the nightclub when no body was in the upper areas of the club. I was told they sounded like cloggs. Objects have also been thrown from the upper levels down to the lower levels while no body was actually up there. This was reported by staff and the cleaners alike. On the lower level more footsteps have been heard walking along the stone floor and knocks and taps have been heard in this area. The sound of glass smashing has also been heard and then discovered while people are in the building on their own. So plenty for the GHOST Investigation team to get their teeth stuck into, but could it live up to the coroners court we had just investigated while waiting for the club to empty? Only time would tell. We only had 3-4 hours to investigate this particular venue (with it being a nightclub) so we got stuck straight in. Just before our first vigil, Drew and Mark both heard the clear and distinct sound of knocking coming from the main entrance area. When they checked the area and looked outside no one was there. However they did insist that the knocking they heard did actually come from inside the building.
We split into two groups and our group which consisted of myself, lee, Mark winter (guest) and Rob (guest) headed up to the upper west section of the club while Drew, Fiona, Chris (club manager) and the other guest went to the lower east section of the club. Before we set off on our vigils we places trigger objects and motion sensors down in the reported areas of phenomena. They were not set off nor were they moved during the duration of he investigation.
4.00am
I called out into the atmosphere to see if we could get any response from any of the spirits that are alleged to reside in this building. It was not long before myself and Rob thought we heard the distant voice of a woman’s murmur coming from underneath where we were situated. We radioed Fiona to ask if it was her talking in and she replied in the negative. The sound was definitely coming from inside the premises and it remains a mystery as to who or what it was.At 4.15am I spent 10 minutes sitting on the upper wooden bridge on my own listening, and observing to no avail, although I did get the impression that it was a woman who walked this area. Why I thought that, I could not say but perhaps the sound of clog shoes could have indeed been high heels. We will never know. From 4.20am - 4.40am the rest of this vigil was quiet. Team two had nothing to report.
We then switched locations after our break and proceeded with the investigation. At 5.00am We all heard the kitchen door (which is situated behind the bar) open and close slightly. A check was carried out for open doors or windows which could have carried a breeze through the building or up the stairs but we found open doors nor did we find any open windows and there was certainly no breeze. During this check, Rob reported hearing the faint sound of laughter coming from somewhere in the building. No cause could be found for it. Again at 5.05am the kitchen door mysteriously open on it s own but just slightly again. We all heard the sound of the door open, and then close again. Still no cause could be found. I called out to the atmosphere and both myself and Lee photographed some nice orbs. However these orbs we think are merely dust particles. Team two recorded an anomalous reading with the EMF meter where the footsteps had been heard by members of the staff and apart from some creaking noises heard above their heads, nothing much was witnessed in the way of paranormal activity. At 6.00am we ended the vigil.
